Clifford Stoll

He's one of my favorite people in this world. You can find his TED talk on Youtube - it's amazing - and some of his projects on Numberphile.

I just wanted to share a quote from his talk, which I want to make into a plaque and hang on my wall:

"When you do something for the first time, it's science.
When you do something the second time, ... it's engineering.
When you do something for the third time, well, that's just a technician.
Me, I'm a scientist. Once I do something, I want to do something else."

I think art can be very much the same. The first time you draw something, it's innovation. The second, it's refinement. The third, it just becomes practice.

Keep that in mind the next time you're drawing or writing. Are you doing what you really wanted to do?
